Kaikki lähti siitä, kun sain äidiltäni sähköpostin, että hakuaika seuraavaksi Turun flikaksi päättyy pian. Käsillä olivat niin sanotusti viimeiset hetket, sillä kilpailuun voivat hakea 16–24-vuotiaat turkulaiset nuoret. Helmikuun lapsena lähetin hakemuksen hieman päälle 24-vuotiaana turkulaisena. Turkuseura on vuonna 1957 perustettu jokaisen turkulaisen ja Turun ystävän yhdistys.
Turkuseura järjestää Turun historiaan, kulttuuriperintöön ja nykyilmiöihin liittyviä tapahtumia, julkaisee Suomen Turku -lehteä ja Turku-aiheisia tuotteita sekä ottaa kantaa Turun kaupungin vetovoimatekijöihin ja mahdollistaa asukkaiden osallistumisen Turun kehittämiseen. Yhdistyksellä on myös oma kauppa, Föripuoti, jossa myydään Turku-tuotteita.
